They say fashion comes full circle and so it has. Call it the surging love for everything retro with contemporary twists or the striking of the ethno-western wave, floor-touching maxi dresses are making their presence felt on the fashion circuit, and how! With Michelle Obama wearing her favourite maxi dress for a recent dinner at the King’s Palace in Marrakesh, the attire has stolen many a heart this season.

While Tricity fashion designers cannot stop raving about the splendid slim silhouette the dress grants every body type. Wear it as a gown for an evening party or team it up with a pair of straight pants to your workplace, there is a lot you can do with this one!

Slim silhouette

Fashion designer Shruti, who runs the label Scarlet by Shruti Jamaal, envisions the comeback of maxi dresses as the modern generation’s attempt at striking a balance between Indianisation and westernisation. “It is an amalgamation of what you would call ethnic and western fashion elements,” she notes.

Shruti gestures towards a floor-touching maxi top and points out some best ways to don the trending outfit, which suits all body types. “The best part is there are more ways than one to wear the comfortable attire with élan. You can either team up your long-sleeved maxi with palazzos, pants or leggings, and if you are confident in your skin, one always has the option of wearing it in the manner of a gown. It gives a slim appearance to the wearer.”

According to fashion designer Sabita Loie, maxi dresses are perfect for Indian summers as they are flowy and airy. “The best part is that these dresses can be worn anytime and anywhere. When heading for formal occasions, opt for fabrics such as silk with brocades to give it a rich look,” she notes.

Fit for every occasion

Chandigarh dame Xitiz Gupta, who works as a senior manager with a multinational company in Delhi, believes that maxi dresses can be worn in multiple ways. She notes, “When heading for a date, opt for a figure-hugging maxi dress with a nice pair of heels, for a semi-formal touch. While a flowy floral button down maxi is the best bet for a casual hang out rendezvous with pals.”

Dimple Kaushal is a proud owner of as many as 10 maxi dresses, “I just cannot resist laying my hands over these comfy delights which get me so many compliments. My trick is to wear them as a one piece dress on semi-formal occasions and throwing on a pair of leggings when hitting my office.”

As actress Saanvi Dhiman sees it, “This trend is here to stay. I love wearing maxi dresses on casual outings with family and friends. They are so comfortable and classy.”Read more at:bridesmaid dresses online
