Dress for Success Mercer County receives grant

Dress for Success Mercer County today announced that it received a $25,000 Greater Mercer Grant from the Princeton Area Community Foundation in support of its Mercer County Latina Literacy Mobile Program.

"We are grateful to the Community Foundation for funding our Latina Literacy Mobile Program, which will enable us to provide Latina women and girls with critically important bilingual career development and educational training that will help improve their employment and economic prospects," said Melissa Tenzer, the Executive Director of Dress for Success Mercer County.

According to Tenzer, the Grant will also fund Dress for Success Mercer County's innovative mobile delivery model that will transport its "pop-up" Latina Literacy Mobile Program to trusted Trenton partner sites, The Children's Home Society and the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc. "Our goal is to make Dress for Success Mercer County's bilingual workforce programs more accessible to our Latina clients by delivering services to them in their own communities," said Tenzer.

Dress for Success Mercer County's Latina Mobile Literacy Program addresses the challenges that impede the Latina community's acquisition of the skills and knowledge that can lead to fuller participation in the job market and in wider community life. Its bilingual approach will break the language barriers that this underserved community encounters and open powerful avenues of self-improvement and language acquisition. Likewise, its tested mentoring techniques will help Latina clients realize their individual educational and career aspirations.

Dress for Success Mercer County is dedicated to empowering women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. The organization provides job readiness, educational, career mentoring and image enhancement programs that support clients through every stage of their employment journey – from pre-employment needs to professional development. Since it opened its doors in 2007, Dress for Success Mercer County has served more than 3,300 women and girls in the greater Mercer County region.

Dress for Success Mercer County's four core programs - Career Center, Image Enhancement Program, Going Places Network and Professional Women's Group – provide motivated, job-ready women with a competitive edge in securing jobs, in remaining employed and ultimately becoming contributors to their community. Its two new 2016 programs - Financial Literacy and the Customer Service Excellence – are designed to train clients on personal money management, and to attain skills for jobs in the expanding customer service industry. Dress for Success Mercer County's clients are referred to the organization by over 100 regional social service agencies, nonprofits and educational institutions with which it collaborates closely to serve Mercer County women and girls.
